The IATE Constitution
The International Association of TESOL & Education (IATE) is a non-profit organization.
Article I: Name and Location
Section 1: The name of this organization shall be the International Association of TESOL & Education (IATE).
Section 2: The principal office of IATE shall be located at 5243 Birch Falls Ln, Sugar Land, Texas, USA, 77479.
Article II: Mission and Purpose
Section 1: The mission of IATE is to advance the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Education through the promotion of research, collaboration, and professional development.
Section 2: IATE is committed to organizing the annual International Conference of TESOL & Education, as well as maintaining and publishing several international journals dedicated to TESOL and education.
Article III: Membership
Section 1: Membership in IATE is open to individuals, institutions, and organizations with an interest in TESOL and education.
Section 2: Members shall have the right to participate in the activities of IATE, including attending the International Conference and contributing to the international journals.
Section 3: Membership categories and dues shall be determined by the Board of Directors.
Article IV: Board of Directors
Section 1: IATE shall be governed by a Board of Directors consisting of elected representatives.
Section 2: The Board of Directors shall include the Executive Committee, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of IATE.
Section 3: The Executive Committee members shall include a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and other officers as deemed necessary.
Article V: Officers
Section 1: The President shall preside over meetings, represent IATE, and provide leadership to the organization.
Section 2: The Vice Presidents shall assist the President and assume their duties in their absence.
Section 3: The Secretary shall be responsible for maintaining records and minutes of meetings.
Section 4: The Treasurer shall oversee the financial affairs of IATE.
Article VI: International Conference of TESOL & Education
Section 1: IATE shall organize one or more annual International Conferences of TESOL & Education to facilitate the exchange of ideas, research findings, and best practices in the field.
Section 2: The Conference Committee, appointed by the Board, shall be responsible for planning and executing the conference.
Section 3: IATE may enter into Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with universities, colleges, and faculties of foreign languages for the collaborative organization of conferences, publication, research, sharing of resources, and mutual support in academic endeavors.
Article VII: International Journals
Section 1: IATE shall maintain and publish several international journals dedicated to TESOL and Education.
Section 2: The Editorial Board, appointed by the Board of Directors, shall oversee the editorial process and ensure the quality of publications.
Section 3: IATE may enter into MoUs with other academic institutions, including universities, colleges, and faculties of foreign languages, for collaborative research, publication, and academic exchange.
Article VIII: Memoranda of Understanding (MoU)
Section 1: IATE may enter into MoUs with other organizations, including but not limited to universities, colleges, institutions, and faculties of foreign languages, to foster cooperation, collaboration, and mutual support in areas such as organizing conferences, conducting joint research projects, and facilitating publication.
Section 2: The terms and conditions of any MoU shall be subject to approval by the Board of Directors and may include provisions related to financial arrangements, resource sharing, and the scope of collaboration.
Article IX: ICTE Press
Section 1: IATE recognizes ICTE Press as an integral component of its mission to advance the field of TESOL and education. ICTE Press, hereafter referred to as “ICTE Press,” serves as a dedicated platform for the publication and dissemination of high-quality research in the areas of TESOL and education.
Section 2: The ICTE Press operates under the guidance of an Editorial Board appointed by the Board of Directors, comprising experts in the field responsible for maintaining the integrity and quality of publications.
Section 3: The Editorial Board is tasked with overseeing the peer-review process, ensuring that published works align with the standards of excellence upheld by IATE. The ICTE Press will encompass various publications, including but not limited to journals, books, and research compilations.
Section 4: The Board of Directors shall periodically review the performance and contributions of the Press, ensuring its alignment with the overarching goals and mission of IATE.
Article X: Meetings
Section 1: Regular meetings of IATE shall be held at least once a year at the Annual General Meetings.
Section 2: Special meetings may be called by the President or at the request of at least 50% members.
Section 3: Notice of meetings shall be provided to members 30 days in advance.
Article XI: Finances
Section 1: IATE’s fiscal year shall run from the first day of January and ends on the last day of December of each year.
Section 2: An annual budget shall be prepared by the Treasurer and approved by the Board.
Section 3: Financial records shall be reviewed annually by the Vice President for Administrative Affairs.
Article XII: Amendments
Section 1: This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members present at a meeting.
Section 2: Proposed amendments shall be submitted to the members at least 60 days prior to the meeting.
