1 Amancio was born in 1936. His father didn’t earn much money and the family sometimes couldn’t afford food.
2 His mother used to ask for credit at the grocery store. One day they said no, so Amancio decided to quit school and get a job.
3 Clothes used to be very expensive and customers didn’t use to buy many. Amancio realized people would spend more if clothes were cheaper.
4 He started his own business, borrowed money from the bank, and in 1975 he opened his first Zara store.
5 Today Zara is in many countries, but he still lives where he grew up.
